What is the purpose of using chicken mesh in plastering?
Release Date: 2017-12-22
The mesh has the same function as reinforcement does in concrete. It strengthens the plaster against forces within the plaster itself and the backing upon which it is layed.
On interior walls it’s often applied in corners since the walls seldom is entirely connected which give a risk for shrink and movement cracks which the mesh lowers.
You shouldn’t use mesh in exterior plastering if the plastering is thinner then 20mm since the mesh isn’t galvanized enough and gives you risk for rust expansion and then the plastering will fall down before it’s due. If you need reinforcement in plastering outdoor suse glassfiber nets instead. Or even better, have a correct stone/brick backing and you wont need any mesh if the plaster is not to strong with cement.
